A. K. Ross was placed in charge of the magazine Fathom, succeeding Michael Wenton-Weakes as editor, after Weakes' mother Lady Magna sold the magazine to Gordon Way. The ghost of the Salaxalan engineer spurs Weakes to murder Ross, which he summarily does. Shortly after his murder, his ghost accosts the ghost of Gordon Way, who had himself been murdered by the Electric Monk, and relays to him the identity of his murderer. His task now complete, Ross' spirit found peace and passed on, and gave Gordon Way the information he needed to warn his sister Susan Way about Weakes.
Behind the scenes
In the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency BBC Radio series, Ross is mentioned but never directly appears; instead Weakes' murder victim is Lady Magna, who is portrayed by actress Tamsin Heatley.
