Bernice the cat is a character in Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently books.
Biography[]
According to Dirk Gently, Bernice was a cat used in an actual practical Schrödinger's Cat experiment. The cat supposedly disappeared mysteriously from the box and he was tasked with finding her, which he did by simply luring her with milk and calling her name outside the building, as the cat had simply run away.
Dirk told this story to Richard MacDuff, who was rightfully sceptical of its truth.
