The Dirk Gently franchise was founded on English author Douglas Adams' novel Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and the titular holistic detective Dirk Gently, originally published in 1987. The franchise includes two and a half books by Adams, as well as several adaptations on television, radio, and the stage.
